Richard Serra was the artist that I chose as inspiration for my conceptual model. I find his use of material, organic shapes and movement in his designs fascinating. When one walks through his artworks they journey from dark to light as well as from isolated to exposed. He uses materials that weather and adapt to the surrounding conditions so that his artworks seem to belong in their environment.
Below are some of his works:
Below is my first conceptual model and draft montages:
From the above draft montages I chose two to develop and added more detail and layers in Photoshop. Below is my finale model and developed montages.
Above I have situated my model on the shore of Sydney harbour. I visualised an art gallery that at night time would light up and attract tourists an locals to the harbour.
Above I have situated my model outside the Art Gallery of New South Wales. I thought this would be a fitting location to have structure inspired by a great artist that doubles as a cafe for those who are visiting the Gallery or park.
